Allspice, berry of an evergreen tree, is native to the Western Hemisphere. Its flavor, which suggests a blend of nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon, is both sweet and warm.
Add to meat loaf and sauces for ham. Use in relishes, sweet potatoes, squash, spice cake, cookies and apple pie. Add to tomato and barbecue sauces.
